Lyrics

The words as written. The Gogolis’ lyrics are co-written by a person and AI, and a human chooses the final words.

Intro

Evening on the grass, and the sky's turning red —
Something very big is asleep up ahead...
(hoh... hoh...)
Wake up, lion! The whole sky is gold!

Chorus

(Hoh! Hoh!) Here comes the lion,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Golden and slow,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Stamp in the grass and
Open up wide — RRRROAAAR!

Verse 1

Poff reaches down with those long springy arms
And lifts the tiny lion up over them all —
Up past the grass, up past everybody's head,
The smallest lion of all, feeling ten feet tall!

Verse 2

The big lion climbs on a rock to pose,
Golden and grand from the tail to the nose.
Then the cub climbs up, then Nibs, then the rest —
Everybody squashed on one rock, doing their best!

Chorus

(Hoh! Hoh!) Here comes the lion,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Golden and slow,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Stamp in the grass and
Open up wide — RRRROAAAR!

Tiptoe

Shhh... everybody freeze!
Nobody breathe, not even a sneeze...
One eye opens...
...and closes again!

Verse 3

The little lion practises a great big roar,
Opens up wide... and nothing comes out at all!
One more try now, with all of that might —
...squeak! And the big lions run away in fright!
Then Gambo tries it — chest out, eyes shut tight —
And out comes... "toot!" — like a very small flute!

Verse 4

Two big lions have a terrible fight,
Rolling and pawing with all of their might —
Then one stops still and TICKLES the other,
And down they go, laughing together!

Chorus

(Hoh! Hoh!) Here comes the lion,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Golden and slow,
(Hoh! Hoh!) Stamp in the grass and
Open up wide — RRRROAAAR!

Goodbye

Hello, lion! Hello, little one!
Wave goodbye — we're driving into the sun!

Evening on the grass, and something very big is asleep. When the lion wakes, Poff lifts the tiny cub up on long springy arms, high over everybody’s head, and then the whole band squashes onto one rock beside the big lion to pose.

The cub practises a great big roar and out comes a squeak; Gambo tries too and out comes a toot. The tiptoe part is the one to play: everybody freezes while one sleepy eye opens and closes again. Two lions have a terrible fight that turns into tickling, and every chorus ends with a roar as big as a child can make.
